Ecology as Art

Ecology as Art

by Beatrice Lopez

an explorative text about the symbiotic relationship between art and ecology as living form, the advances of technology in relation to shifting cultural tendencies and the role of the artist as a transnationalist catalycator of change

Tendencies are created in a society that is in constant creative change and development with effects such as globalisation, gentrification, homogeneity, integration policies, transnationalist, co-operations such as european union, global economy are in fact factors born by technology and artists. Artists accomodate intuitive change and active exploration. Technology accomodate our modern framework and make possible interactive infrastructures that entangle immediate global effects. The internet is a rebellious, revolutionizing force born out of a creative impulse. Beuys talked about a social organism in which the three core activities culture, politics and economics can be studied, modeled and analyzed into an harmonious interworking of social health. A living organism shaped by living formative thought, social sculpture in action that generate warmth and well being. We can see it partly interwoven into our social fabric of life. The idea of everybody is an artist and what is art? is more relevant than ever with an ever providing platform of connected `online` awakened community no matter identity and borders. The internet speaks of and for the people, democrasize media and human relationships. Still to grasp a living way of thought we need to dvelve deeper into the mysterious nature of our being and bring awareness to who we are as human beings. A soul currency must define our language and shape our behaviour so that sensibility can resonate. In order to be active, responsible creators and sustainers of our world we need to practice a fluid thinking mode. A mode of thinking that includes all our senses united with imagination, inspiration and intuition. An artistic thinking seeped in depth, wonder and intimacy that are fully integrated with nature and its ever evolving principles. We must not be cold onlookers as science can have a tendency to create confusion. Technology is after all machines and science has taken up especially this machinery mode of thinking, where parts react with other parts, a natural selection occurs. A dense solid mode of thinking that does not conjure with the living pulsating rhythm of nature. Nature is a whole and if to grasp the fiery creative principle that constitute living form we must dvelve deeper. Using intuition as a tool to connect with nature where art facilitates an open connection and lets you explore uknown territories. Art as the truth of our human nature, who we really are.
